Railway

From bogies and complete train carriages to the interior electronics, seats and partitions, Applus+ Laboratories works with manufacturers and suppliers of the railway industry to validate their products and prototypes.

Thanks to our full scope of accreditations*, cross disciplinary expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, we offer support throughout the entire product development cycle so you can optimize your products and prove compliance with regulations.

STRUCTURAL TESTING OF BOGIES, RAIL CARS & SUBCOMPONENTS

We are an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory to test complete rail car bodies according to EN 12663-1** and validate bogies and bogie frames according to EN 13749 for all types of trains (trams, locomotives, freight or passenger trains). We also perform tests to OEM-specific standards and we can design and carry out bespoke test plans with your own specific load requirements as well.

We work to verify strength, stability and durability on full-scale structures and we test a large range of substructures and smaller components too (e.g. axle boxes according to EN 12082). Our service offering includes damage analysis through static and dynamic tests (strength, tension, stress and deformation), FEM analysis, non-destructive testing, and testing under controlled climatic conditions.

OPERATIONAL STRESS MEASUREMENTS & TEST DRIVES

Whether for approval trials, calculation and simulation or structure optimisation in problem cases, we perform measuring runs and continuous stress monitoring to record loads in actual applications. This is an in-situ procedure performed to DIN EN 13749 and VDV 152 application guidelines for the rail vehicle sector. We can offer an end-to-end service if desired: creating the measuring concepts, conducting FE analysis, applying the advances sensor technology, evaluation the measurement data evaluation and implementing appropriate test procedures.
