Type approval for telecommunication and radio communication products intended to be marketed in Oman is based on TRA’s approval.

Radio frequency transmitter and receiver products intended to be marketed in Oman that make use of the radio spectrum or connect to the public network are subject to a mandatory approval process issued by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

TRA compliance testing activities with technical requirements are based on 2014/53/EU RED test reports. Moreover, an EU-Type Examination Certificate must be part of the technical documentation submitted to the TRA.

Once equipment type testing has been performed, an Omani local supplier must apply for the TRA certificate of approval by providing the required documentation. This application must be submitted through TRA’s online platform. The validity of the TRA certificate is indefinite.

After Type Approval has been granted by the TRA, an approval label must be placed on the equipment, on the outside of the packaging and on any of the enclosed documents (such as the user manual).
The labelling of the equipment must meet the following requirements:

  • The label must be printed (when possible) or placed as a sticker
  • The label must have a white background and black text
  • The label design must match the below image and must contain the following information:
    • Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)
    • Dealer/Importer Registration Number issued by the TRA
    • Approval/Registration Number issued by the TRA
