INDAR is a patented debonding primer developed by Applus+ Rescoll, a part of Applus+ Laboratories, that enables debonding on demand of adhesively bonded composites through controlled thermal activation.
Applied as an intermediate layer between the substrate and the adhesive, INDAR acts as a reversible bonding solution. When exposed to heat, the primer breaks cohesively, causing a significant reduction in bond strength, even in structural adhesive assemblies. This allows fast, clean, and non-destructive debonding while preserving the integrity of substrates.
In addition to reversible adhesive bonding, INDAR can also be used as a strippable coating. Residual primer is easily removed using alcohol-based cleaning, enabling substrate reuse or composite recycling without aggressive chemical stripping.
The INDAR debonding primer has demonstrated strong performance across multiple industries requiring high-performance adhesive bonding and controlled debonding, including:
To accelerate industrial adoption, Applus+ Rescoll has licensed INDAR technology to several global adhesive manufacturers, enabling large-scale industrialization and worldwide commercialization of reversible bonding solutions.
Building on INDAR—the core technology behind Huntsman’s ARALDITE® DeBondEP series—Huntsman Advanced Materials played a central role in introducing, industrializing and commercializing the system for the ski market, for which Huntsman holds an exclusive license within the sport and leisure sector. Huntsman has been directly involved from the outset and remains a key contributor to the development, qualification, and commercial deployment of this technology.
The project covered:
Results confirmed that INDAR based ARALDITE® DeBondEP formulations preserve structural integrity throughout use while enabling rapid, clean delamination at end-of-life or during repair.
This success case highlights the robustness of the technology and its strong potential for broader applications such as:
INDAR represents a major breakthrough in circular materials management by addressing one of the key limitations of adhesive bonding: irreversibility.
By enabling on-demand thermal debonding, INDAR supports:
INDAR positions reversible adhesive bonding as a key enabler for sustainable composites and circular economy strategies in high-performance industries.
Applus+ Rescoll, a part of Applus+ Laboratories, combines advanced materials research, characterization, and industrial validation expertise to support the development and deployment of INDAR technology. Through application-oriented innovation and comprehensive testing capabilities, Applus+ Laboratrories reinforces its position as an industry expert in reversible bonding solutions and sustainable composite technologies.
