PREFORMAS 3D Project

30/08/2012
Development of advanced composite components using 3D woven preforms for aircraft structures.

The Preformas 3D project develops the necessary technology to obtain complex composite carbon fiber structural components with high mechanical proprieties in aero structures which nowadays are made of metallic materials.

With this, contributes to offer tools to the aeronautic industry for building lighter airplanes, which helps to reduce the fuel consumption and to respect the environment.

Applus+ is the project leader, with the collaboration of AMADE group from Girona University and the technological center CETEMMSA.

Our experts investigate the technologies to weave carbon fiber in 3D, and the subsequent Resine Transfer Moulding (RTM) process, in order to obtain carbon fiber preforms with high structural performance, to be used as structural components in aircraft structures.

The project has been funded by MINECO (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad), through the INNPACTO program, and co-founded by FEDER: the operational program “Fondo Tecnológico 2007-2013 por y para el beneficio de las empresas”.
