The quality of hotel establishments is directly related to the care taken in the design of their interiors and products. Therefore, it represents an important area for improvement directly linked to competitiveness, innovation, and renovation within the hotel sector. Design quality is also a key factor in positioning hotels in both local and global markets.
To assess and certify design quality within the hotel sector, FAD (Fostering of Arts and Design) and Applus+ Certification have jointly developed a quality mark that enables hotels to demonstrate that they offer the highest standards in interior design, environmental design, and graphic communication, enhancing their clients' comfort and well-being.
It is a unique international standard specifically designed for hotel establishments, defined as any organization whose primary activity is accommodation, regardless of any complementary activities it may also perform.
Its objective is to assess and recognize, through a quality certification mark, those hotel organizations that demonstrate excellence in applying design best practices across both interior decoration and graphic design.
The certification has been developed by FAD in collaboration with Applus+. Experts from both organizations assess companies seeking certification throughout the entire process, with the aim of helping them improve design quality across all areas of their business. Once certified, Applus+ conducts periodic follow-up audits to ensure that design quality standards are maintained over time.
The interior design assessment considers factors such as mobility and circulation, relationships between spaces, accessibility, environmental impact, material quality, color and design concepts, artwork and decorative elements, furniture, consistency of style, ease of maintenance, lighting, energy efficiency, acoustics, climate control, ventilation, and exterior image, among many other aspects.
The graphic design assessment evaluates elements including brand identity, corporate typography and legibility, pictograms, materials used, effectiveness of communication, stationery, printed and digital publications, websites, promotional materials, social media presence, signage, environmental graphics, textile applications, bathroom amenities, corporate gifts, staff uniforms, and parking area graphics.
Fostering of Arts and Design (FAD) is a private, independent, non-profit association founded in 1903 with the mission of promoting design and architecture across social, cultural, and economic fields.
