Applus+ Laboratories receives EMVCo qualification to test Proximity Coupling Devices (PCDs) according to version 3.0 of the EMVCo Level 1 Specification for Payment Systems

26/03/2020

The new version of the payment scheme’s specification (3.0) is active and mandatory since January 2020 to prove the PCDs’ conformity stated for EMVCo Level 1

The EMVCo Level 1 specification is aimed at PCD manufacturers, payment systems designers, and teams within financial organizations responsible for implementing the financial applications of payment devices (PCDs). This specification describes the minimum required functionality to ensure the right functionality and interoperability of the devices, independent of the application used.

After acquiring the EMVCo qualification to carry out testing according to version 3.0 of the specifications, we expand our capabilities to perform functional tests on PCDs, being able to carry out both the certification process and the debug sessions.

    National Instruments Collaboration

In order to proceed with the device certification process under EMVCo L1 3.0, Applus+ Laboratories has the support of the NFC and Wireless Charging Group at National Instruments for the use of their solutions in contactless testing.

After many years of collaboration, the expert teams at Applus+ Laboratories have consolidated their testing capabilities with NI equipment, which allows us to expedite the debug sessions and the functional certification testing. The capabilities of the NI equipment allow us to obtain clear and concise data. The different configuration options grant engineers the ability to locate and explain the different issues identified in the device during the test”, Josepmaria Roca, Director, IT Labs Area at Applus+ Laboratories

Applus+ is a key laboratory in PCD testing, both in Europe and in Asia. Applus+ is accredited by the main global payment schemes, and has been distinguished twice by Visa as the best terminal testing lab for the quality of its service. Contactless reader manufacturers that already use  the Contactless Test stations for in-house testing will also benefit from this agreement,  they will have an additional accredited lab equipped with the same test tools to conduct their official certification tests” Stéphane CZECK, Marketing Director, NFC and Wireless charging Group – National Instruments

    About the EMVCo payment scheme

Nowadays, EMVCo is one of the most important global payment schemes, the development of which has been led by the main companies in the sector (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Amex, among others). Certifying a product under the EMVCo scheme guarantees its functionality before its release to the market.

At Applus+ Laboratories, we have been testing under the EMVCO scheme for more than 15 years, and our teams are experts in the administrative and technical aspects of the certification process. At our international network of IT laboratories, we collaborate with our clients to find the most efficient solution to acquiring their product’s certification and debugging processes.
