Summary of Uruguay URSEC Approval process

The “Unidad Reguladora de Servicios de Comunicaciones” (URSEC) is the public body in charge of regulating and controlling the relevant telecommunications and postal service activities in Uruguay. Radio frequency transmitter products that make use of the radio spectrum (or connect to the public network) and are intended to be marketed in Uruguay are subject to a mandatory approval process issued by the URSEC. Radio receivers, meanwhile, aren’t subject to mandatory Type Approval.

URSEC testing activity for conformance with Type Approval requirements can be based on ETSI (EU), FCC, ANATEL, CNC or other test reports, which can be performed exclusively by laboratories accredited by national accreditation bodies. Additionally, the certificate of approval according to the previous schemes must also be part of the technical documentation.

For URSEC, Type Approval by an in-country local representative is not needed, as all the process goes through VUCE’s portal, including the storage of the information about the radio/telecommunication equipment, the registration portal, and where the equipment number will be issued.

URSEC Approval will take approximately 6 weeks and the certificate has a 15 year validity period.
