The not food-safe alloy is used for wire and prewire for mechanical applications as well as for forged parts and prematerial. To the comparable mark AlZn4,5Mg1, mat. No.3.4355, acc. to DIN 1725-1 applies: The alloy is a natural and artificial agable aluminium-alloy of mean strength which was developped especially for welding constructions. The material achieves after artificial aging strength values up to 250N/mm² and is therefore suitable for ststicly high strained constructions. Heat-treatment for hardening: solution annealing: 460 to 485 °C, quenching in air natural aging: min. 90 d at RT artificial aging: 8 to 12 h at 90 to 100°C and 16 to 24 h at 140 to 160°C. Natural aged condition is achieved after min. 90 days. It can be also achieved by quenching after press (i.e. without extra solution annealing before natural aging). Artificial aging is an aging treatment in two steps. The advantages of these alloys used for welding constructions are: the alloy is self-acting hardening in the heat-affected zone after welding and it is has a higher corrosion resistance in artificial than in natural aged condition. In the event of corrosive load to welded construction parts has to be a artificial aging after welding. Application: in machine engineering (incl. mold making) for machine solids, cases, rollertubes, machine benches (sections), for appliances (anchor, head and punch unit holder plates) as well as for guide plates and tools, turned parts (hydraulics/ pneumatics). In apparatus and tank construction, for tanks in low-temperature sector, in rail vehicle manufacturing for wagon bodies, equipment and axle bearing cases, in conveyor technics for carrying constructions. In vehicle manufacturing for commercial-vehicle bodies, tank and bulk trucks, motor busses, bumpers and safety parts, in shipbuilding for radar systems resp. equipment as well as in aircraft construction.
