Materials Portal 1.4.0: Advancing Materials Data

Feb 07, 2025

We are excited to announce the release of Materials Portal 1.4.0, a significant upgrade that brings powerful new functionalities and an enhanced user experience to our platform. This release introduces a dynamic and highly configurable search table, alongside numerous usability improvements that make materials data exploration more intuitive and efficient.

Introducing the Enhanced Search Table

The core highlight of this release is the new search table, designed to provide a seamless and customizable experience for our users. Whether you are a researcher, engineer, or materials scientist, this update offers a more efficient way to navigate and analyze materials data. Here's what's new:

  • Advanced Filtering Options: Located on the left side of the search table, the Filter by panel allows users to refine results by material groups or specific data points within a material'ss datasheet. The panel can be collapsed for a streamlined view using the "<-" button below the search bar.
  • Smart Search Functionality: The Find Materials search bar now displays real-time results as you type. Simply click on a result from the dropdown list to execute your search query instantly.
  • Customizable Property Display: Below the "Start" button, users will find a property-editing icon. This feature enables the selection of material properties to be displayed in the search table. For example, if you're looking for materials within a specific Tensile Strength [MPa] range, you can add this property under Mechanical Properties and apply a filter accordingly. Active filters are clearly highlighted, and users can remove them at any time using the trash can icon or the "Reset Properties" option.
  • Filter Overview & Management: Applied filters and property constraints are now displayed as chips above the search table, ensuring full visibility of active selections. All filters can be cleared effortlessly for a fresh search experience.

Refined Search Table Experience

  • Fixed Column Actions: On the right side of the table, a fixed column provides quick access to actions for each search result, ensuring that necessary functionalities are always within reach.
  • Customizable Search Results: The main body of the table displays search results with selected properties as table headers. Users can sort results based on specific properties and remove unwanted columns with ease.
  • Persistent Property Filters: Any filters applied from the property selection sidebar remain visible as chips, allowing users to track active constraints at a glance.
  • Material Name & Comparison Feature: The leftmost column remains fixed to preserve material names for easy reference. Additionally, checkboxes allow users to compare multiple materials - simply select your desired entries and click the "Compare" button above the filter chips to access a comprehensive comparison view.

Additional Enhancements

Beyond the revamped search experience, Materials Portal 1.4.0 introduces UI improvements, search optimizations, and a brand-new notification bell to keep users informed about important updates and alerts.

We are thrilled to bring these new features to our growing community of users and look forward to your feedback. Explore the upgraded Materials Portal today and experience a smarter, more intuitive way to discover materials data.

Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being part of the Materials Portal journey!

Discover What’s New in the Materials Portal – Smarter, Faster, More Powerful

Apr 04, 2025

The latest evolution of the Materials Portal brings a powerful set of new features designed to enhance your research and data workflows that take material data access and research to the next level. Designed with engineers, designers, and researchers in mind, the latest updates enhance both usability and data depth—so you can find exactly what you need, faster.

Smarter Filtering – Find the Right Data in Seconds

Our improved user interface now includes advanced filtering options, allowing you to quickly refine your search by specific technical properties, including:

  • Mechanical Data
  • Physical Data
  • Product Information
  • FKM Guideline Fatigue Data
  • Magnetic Data
  • Relaxation Data

You can now specifically filter for datasets containing engineering diagrams such as:

  • TTT curves (Time-Temperature-Transformation)
  • e-n curves (strain-life fatigue data)
  • s-n curves (stress-life fatigue data for HCF and LCF)
  • Flow curves, including both tensile and upsetting test data, with detailed information about true stress-strain behavior over various strain rates and temperatures.

Additionally, filter by crack propagation, creep data, fracture toughness, relaxation data, and Hardenability (Jominy test)—making it easier than ever to pinpoint materials with the exact technical data you need for your project.

With these new filters, the Materials Portal offers unmatched precision and efficiency in material selection and analysis.

Expanded Database – More Materials, More Standards

We’ve significantly expanded our material database with the inclusion of 364 ASTM standards, covering approximately 6,398 materials across Iron and Steel Products and Nonferrous Metal Products. This extended dataset offers broader industry coverage and deeper technical insight for a wide range of applications.

What It Means for You
