1) Remark: EN-MCMgAl8Zn1, trade name AZ 81 is a generally used alloy. It is produced as sand, chilled, precision and diecasting. The make shows favorable sliding properties and is weldable. It is used for shock loaded components (cast condition) resp. for impact and vibration loaded parts (homogenized condition) up to approx. 110°C. The alloy is excellent machinable (regulations of the professional association have to be considered), shows high damping power and no embrittlement at low temperatures. High oxidation tendency of the melted magnesium and of the Mg-chipping requires special measures when melting, casting, trimming and welding. The alloy is also produced as HighPurity (HP)-alloy for application in corrosive environment. Magnesium and its alloys show the easiest machinability of all known construction metals.
