1) Remark: Material EN AW-Al Zn5,5MgCu is produced for sheet, strip and plates, for HF-welded tubes, for extruded and drawn components, for wire and prewire for mechanical application, for forged parts and prematerial. The alloy is not food-safe. To the comparable mark AlZnMgCu1,5,mat. No. 3.4365, acc. to TGL 1725-1 : 1983-02 applies: The alloy achieves due to its composition the highest strength values of the Cu-alloyed AlZnMg-alloys. A strength of approx. 550 N/mm² is achievable by artificial aging. Heat-treatment for hardening: solution annealing: 470 to 480°C, quenching in water artificial aging: 12 to 24 h at 115 to 125°C, 4 to 6 h at 165 to 180°C The artificial aging represents a two-step aging. Natural aging is unusual. The alloy has a favorable machinability and it is on certain conditions weldable. When welding appears a heat-affected zone of lower strength therefore welding should be avoided. A favorable corrosion resistance can only be warranted for an appropriate surface protection coat. Corrosion resistance can be considerably enhanced by artificial aging. In order to tap the full strength values, without having any negative effect of the lower corrosion resistance, the sheets of this alloy are cladded by rolling with e.g. AlZn1. Therby the application area expands considerably. Application: In machine engineering (incl. mold making) for appliances and tools. Predominantly as anchor, head and punch unit holder plates as well as for guide plates. In mold making esp. in plastics processing for blow, foam and injection forms, carrying constructions for woodworking tools, for machine benchings, turned parts (hydraulics/pneumatics), in vehicle manufacturing for bumper, safety parts. In aircraft construction as connecting elements (screws), in military engineering for bending and forming technics (as wire: springs, screens, hooks etc.).
