Material Description

Material NumberStandard StatusRemark
Ag800ValidAg800 is a 800/1000 (800/000) silver-copper alloy. It exceeds the silver alloys with higher fineness of hardness, tensile strength and casting properties. In contrast, the tarnish resistance and cold workability is lower than that of the higher fineness silver alloys. The relatively high proportion of copper (20% by mass) on contact with acetic acid favors the formation of verdigris (mixture of different copper acetates). Furthermore, the copper content causes a yellowish color, which can be eliminated by repeated annealing with subsequent white boiling by formation of a fine silver layer. For castings and for the manufacture of cutlery, which, more than any other silverware, requires hardness and abrasion resistance of the material, Ag800 is the ideal silver alloy. It is mainly used for silverware and coins. In the jewelry sector, this alloy is therefore preferably used for bracelets, brooches and the like, as well as castings.
