1) Remark: Stainless chromium quenched and tempered steel for aerospace applications with good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, in water, under weak acid action and in oxidizing acids, e.g. nitric acid, best when the surface is polished. It has good polishability but limited suitability for welding, so welding of this material is not common. Machining comparable to machining of low alloy structural steels of appropriate heat treatment and strength. Application: - components subject to high mechanical stresses, e.g. screws and shafts, at operating temperatures up to about 400 °C
