EN AW-2117 (DIN EN 573-3 : 2003-10) EN AW-2117 DIN EN 573-3 : 2003-10DIN EN 573-3 : 2003-10 replaced by DIN EN 573-3 : 2007-11ReplacedGermanyEN AW-Al Cu2,5MgThe material EN AW-Al Cu2,5Mg is produced for wire and prewire for mechanical application. It is used for sheet, strip and plates as well as for rolled billets . The alloy is not food-safe. To the comparable mark AlCu2,5Mg0,5, material No. 3.1305, acc. to DIN 1725-1 applies: The alloy pertains ( see also AlCu2,5Mg0,5, Werkstoff-Nr. 3.1124,Werkstoffleistungsblätter der Deutschen Luftfahrt WL 3.1124-1,-100 : 1987-12) to the alloy-type (AlCuMg-Typ) used as the first of the aluminium- forgeable materials in technics. Alloys of this type are usable for natural and artificial aging. They achieve high mechanical strength and they are relatively heat-resistant even in a soft condition. In age hardened condition the material achieves strength up to approx. 310 N/mm² what is the lowest within the standardized AlCuMg materials. Heat-treatment for hardening: Solution annealing: 475° to 505°C, quenching in water Natural aging: 5 to 8 d at RT Artificial aging:16 to 24 h at 180 to 195°C Artificial aging is unusual in practice due to the decreasing corrosion resistance in artificially aged material condition. Even in a naturally aged condition is a surface protection necessary. Considerable strength decrease as well as complicate weldability and hot workability of this alloy as a result of insignificant heat-treatment failures are very unfavorable. Additionally, by welding is caused an economically unacceptable strength loss in the weld seam sector. The application of this material in welding constructions is for economical reasons impossible. It has a very favorable machinability what justifies the application of screws and rivets as connecting elements. Application: solid rivets
