1) Remark: Age-hardenable, low-distortion, stainless CrNiCu steel for aerospace applications exhibits a wide, high strength range in the age-hardened condition. It has good toughness and strength in the transverse direction. The material is suitable for welding, insensitive to decarburization and has a lower delta ferrite content than 1.4548. If there is a risk of stress corrosion cracking, the .5 and .6 states should be avoided. Very good machinability in the overaged condition (750 to 770 °C 2h/air + 610 to 630 °C 4h/air). Subsequent solution annealing must be carried out and the desired final strength brought about by ageing. The material is suitable for gas-shielded arc welding with filler metal of the same type. Generally, welding is performed in the .3 and .4 states. After welding, it is necessary to harden or age again. The material 1.4545 is used for parts which should have high corrosion resistance and good strength properties, also in transverse direction, at temperatures up to 300 °C after simple heat treatment.
