1) Remark: EN-MCMgAl9Zn1(A), trade name AZ 91 is produced as sand, chilled, precision and diecasting. It is an alloy with high tensile strength values and 0,2-proof strength. The material is used for castings of high shape stability and compressive yield point (compression strength) in homogenized and artificial aged condition. The make shows favorable sliding properties and is weldable. Using also for complex die castings with low wall thicknesses and very good strength properties without heat-treatment up to approx. 110°C. The alloy is excellent machinable (regulations of the professional association have to be considered), shows high damping power and no embrittlement at low temperatures. High oxidation tendency of the melted magnesium and of the Mg-chipping requires special measures when melting, casting, trimming and welding. The alloy is also produced as HighPurity (HP)-alloy for application in corrosive environment. Magnesium and its alloys show the easiest machinability of all known construction metals.
