Applus+ Laboratories accredited to conduct new, mandatory EMV L1 PCD interoperability tests for certification of contactless terminals

27/01/2019
As of 1st January 2019, manufacturers of contactless terminals are obliged to test for terminal interoperability in order to gain EMV Type Approval.
EMVCo has broadened the requirements that contactless payment terminals must meet in order to achieve EMV L1 certification. Previously, such terminals had to comply with the PCD L1 digital and analogue specifications. As of 1st January, they must also be tested for interoperability with a set of EMVCo-certified mobiles.

The aim of this new test is to assure the quality of the terminal’s communications channel and detect potential problems that may not show up during analogue and digital testing.

In line with these new requirements, Applus+ has incorporated these new tests into its EMV L1 PCD Contactless accreditation. With this updated accreditation, Applus+ can undertake the full EMVCo certification process for contactless terminals.

Furthermore, Applus+ offers debugging sessions based on the new EMV L1 PCD Contactless version 3.0, which has introduced significant changes vis-à-vis the previous version. This allows manufacturers to make preparations ahead of this new version coming into effect in April 2019.
