Fuselage Project

10/05/2019
Technologies related to the automated manufacture and high-level integration of advanced aircraft fuselage structures
    Start date: 2017

    End date: 2020

Stakeholders: This project is being run by a consortium comprising AIRBUS OPERATIONS SL (the project leader), UTINGAL SL, MB SISTEMAS S COOP, DANOBAT S COOP and LGAI TECHNOLOGICAL CENTER SA (Applus+ Group), with the support of several research bodies and technological centres.

Funding: The project is financed by the CDTI (Centre for Industrial Technological Development) through its CIEN programme aimed at strategic, consortium-led research projects. The funding was granted in November 2017.

Objective: The Fuselage Project (IDI-2017093) was establish to research new fuselage designs, materials and production processes for use in connected industrial setting, with the final goal of delivering more energy-efficient, competitive, reliable and stronger airplanes. By developing new controlling and monitoring systems, the project aims to improve manufacturing productivity for belly fairing and rear fuselage sections of the latest generation of commercial aircraft at a rate of some 100 aircraft per month.
