The admixtures are components that when mixed with other construction materials, provide new product performance functionalities or improvements, remaining permanently embedded in the building or infrastructures work, and therefore directly affect their quality and safety.

Marketing of admixtures in European territory is regulated by Construction Products Regulation 305/2011. Manufacturers or their representatives in the European Union are solely responsible for compliance of their products with the terms of the Regulation, both for trade and use. When a manufacturer identifies an additive with an CE Marking, this indicates that it is in compliance with the harmonized standards and therefore meets the essential requirements of the Regulation. The CE Marking of Admixtures is regulated by a 2+ assessment system that requires the intervention of a Notified Body, to perform the factory production control audit.

Solution

Applus+ is a Notified Body* for the CE Marking of Admixtures and we work with all the producers throughout the CE Marking process of their product. The CE Marking is regulated according to the 2+ assessment system and the applicable harmonized regulations:

  • EN 934-2 Admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout. Concrete admixtures.
  • EN 934-3 Admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout. Admixtures for masonry mortar
  • EN 934-4 Admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout. Admixtures for grout for prestressing tendons.
  • EN 934-5 Admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout. Admixtures for sprayed concrete.

For this process, a series of tasks to be carried out by the manufacturer and another to be completed by the Notified Body are defined:

Manufacturer responsibilities:

  • To perform Type Testing of the mortars they produce, for example compression, adherence, aging, durability, impermeability, etc. (these test may be performed using the manufacturer's own means or be done by an accredited laboratory)
  • To implement a Factory Production Control (FPC)
  • To draw up a program of follow-up testing, specifying types, frequencies, etc.

Notified Body Responsabilities:
  • Perform FPC Initial Inspection, assessment and acceptance
  • Perform anual safety and assessment inspections
CE Marking Documents:
  • Certificate of Conformity of the Factory Production Control (Notified Body)
  • Declaration of Performance of the aggregate (Manufacturer)
  • CE marking and labeling of the aggregate (Manufacturer)

At Applus+ we have been performing controls on construction products for over 100 years, carrying out thousands of tests and we have certified several hundred additives for both Spanish and European companies.
