This additional accreditation expands the laboratory’s portfolio of security evaluations
Applus+ Laboratories has been accredited by FeliCa Networks to carry out security evaluations on FeliCa-compatible transport and payment smartcard products under the FeliCa Approval for Security and Trust (FAST) scheme. This accreditation helps Applus+ to provide a more competitive portfolio of services to smartcard vendors looking to develop global solutions for the transport and payments industries.
Conducting multiple security evaluations in parallel
The FeliCa Approval for Security and Trust certification scheme requires that smartcard products are evaluated to ensure the security of the FeliCa application and libraries. Smartcards must be tested in two independent labs: an evaluator lab and a certification lab. Applus+ Laboratories is accredited as an evaluator lab, meaning that it can carry out FeliCa security evaluations alongside the other security evaluations that a smartcard product might require. The ability to carry out multiple security evaluations in parallel in a single laboratory can speed up time to market for smartcard vendors.
FeliCa is a contactless smartcard system developed by Sony. It uses the FeliCa application and NFC technology to provide authentication for transport ticketing services and payments. The system is used in many countries around the world and is especially common in Japan.
